This cake is near and dear to my heart as it was for my very own mommy!
My mom has sold Scentsy since 2006 and its a big part of our life so I wanted to incorporate that into her birthday cake by using her favorite Scentsy warmer (March Warmer of the Month -Dotty) which happens to not only have great polka dots, but is also her favorite color, yellow! Tiffany and I brainstormed and came up with the idea to make a replica of the warmer in cake and put it on a cake nightstand. Keeping in mind her love for bright colors, we decided a pink nightstand would be fun.
This was our first cake that we needed to use power tools for.
1. The base is 4 wooden legs nailed to a wooden board for support
2. We also used a PVC pipe screwed into a base as support for the center of the nightstand.
We also used cake boards for support throughout.
The shaping of the warmer proved more difficult than we anticipated and didn't turn out perfect, but was pretty close to the right size and shape by the time we finished. The top of the warmer was formed using the actual top of the real warmer and was made out of gum paste, which is still edible, but gets harder than fondant and holds it shape without cracking.
The warmer was lemon cake with strawberry filling. The bottom half of the nightstand was vanilla cake with a cool-whip pineapple filling, and the top half was chocolate cake with strawberry cream cheese filling. There was A TON of cake leftover, but it was all worth it.
There are jellybeans around the top of the nightstand as well as inside the top of the warmer, because the March Scent of the Month was "Jumpin' Jellybean". We also used a little piping gel inside the top of the warmer to look like melting wax!
